When you groom your dogs coat you are removing any unwanted hair and debris leaving the coat look cleaner and healthier, not to mention your dog feeling great. Regular grooming eliminates the risk of matting. Not only can matting of the coat look very unattractive, it also limits the skins exposure to the air, making your pet prone to skin infections. It is also important to dematt a pet before grooming. Once a matt gets wet, it will become tighter and even more difficult to remove.
Frequent grooming also provides an opportunity to examine your pet on a regular basis for any lumps, bumps, skin problems or any sign of early illness.
Nail trimming is a must. Broken nails can be very painful and will bleed. Long nails over time will effect the structure of your pets food and make it very painful for your dog when walking. In extreme cases long nails can also curl and grow into the dogs paws. Obviously you need to avoid this happening.
Ear Cleaning and Plucking is also a must. This keeps the ear canal open and allows air circulation which prevents the ear canal from becoming moist and infected.
Anal Glands are sacs which are located either side of the anus. They contain liquid secretions. When a dog defecates, the sac is normally emptied, however in some cases most struggle to empty leaving your dog open to anal sac disease. Anal glands need to be checked on a regular basis and released of these liquid secretions.
